Tummy Tuck
A tummy-tuck (abdominoplasty) is a surgical procedure to address the many changes that occur over time in the area of the abdomen. Through simply the passage of time and with gravity, or through pregnancy or weight loss, laxity of the skin and soft tissue of the abdomen develops and may appear as stretch marks, skin looseness, loss of attractive contour or, at times, a skin apron hanging from the abdomen. In addition, the muscles of the abdominal wall can weaken, resulting in a bulge that develops in the lower and/or upper abdomen. Through the abdominoplasty procedure, performed under general anesthesia, Dr. Behar is able to correct these changes to provide you with a flatter, more attractive abdominal contour. Skin excess is removed typically from just above the hairline to just above the belly button, using the remaining skin to pull tight the skin of the abdomen. This provides you with the flatter and younger appearance that you desire. During the procedure, the muscles of the abdominal wall are tightened to further enhance the flattening effect of the tummy-tuck (abdominoplasty). Scars are discreetly hidden within the bikini line and within the hollow of the belly button. A more youthful belly button contour is typically provided during this wonderful procedure. For patients who have less dramatic needs, a mini tummy-tuck (mini-abdominoplasty) may be an appropriate alternative. In this procedure, less skin is removed, and the tightening of abdominal muscles is performed only from the belly-button downward. A mini tummy-tuck provides a quicker, easier recuperation with a shorter scar, but is not for everyone. Following dramatic weight loss, a tummy-tuck can address the excess skin that remains. This provides you with a further reward for your successfully achieved weight loss program.
