Breast Implant Rupture
Over time, saline or silicone gel implants may leak and fail. If this occurs with saline, a flatter appearance of the breast will develop within days. With silicone gel implants, this may not be easily detectable. Regardless of the implant, if it no longer is performing as it should, implant replacement is recommended. While it is naturally disappointing to have to undergo implant replacement, this may give you and Dr. Behar an opportunity to make appropriate modifications of the prior results to enhance the results of breast implant surgery beyond what you may have experienced before implant rupture. This could require changing to a different type or size of implant or changing the position of the breast implant to maximize improvement in your figure.
Breast Implant Related Firmness (Capsular Contracture/Scar Tissue Tightening)
Scar tissue developing around breast implants is normal and necessary for the healing process. There are, however, times in which this scar tissue pocket can tighten around your breast implants. This results in a breast that has a firmer, tighter feeling and one that may appear smaller and may rise upward on the chest out of its more natural, relaxed position. Through breast revision surgery, Dr. Behar is able to relax this scar tissue tightening, placing the implant back into the most attractive position. During your revision surgery, Dr. Behar can also further enhance your breast appearance with a change in implant size, type or shape if appropriate.
Implant Malposition
Over the course of time, you may notice that your breast implants shift upward, outward or downward. If this has occurred, Dr. Behar would welcome the opportunity to revise the results of your prior breast augmentation through carefully performed breast revision surgery. This typically requires supportive sutures to place and keep the implants back into proper position. Internal relaxing incisions may be necessary to reposition the implants. Breast Implant Exchange
Occasionally following breast augmentation, a woman is unhappy with the final result. Whether this unhappiness is a result of implant size (too small or too large) or body changes such as weight gain or loss, it may be that implant replacement is what you need. With over fifteen years of surgical care, Dr. Behar has developed the experience necessary to address these delicate issues. Breast Asymmetry
Breast asymmetry can develop over time. Perhaps one breast is too small or one breast is too large. Asymmetry may remain after surgery. You may struggle with tuberous or tubular breast shape (an elongated or triangular distortion of the breast).
